Wastewater Treatment Plant Biofilter Update

Wastewater Treatment Plant Biofilter Organic material Replacement

The Town recently completed the replacement of the organic materials for the biofilter at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The organic materials provide a good habitat for aerobic bacteria that remove odorous gases from the air. The Town’s biofilter has a significant impact on suppressing the unpleasant odours that are a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process.

Thank you to our Contractor and their Subcontractor, our Wastewater Staff and Public Works for the successful completion of this important Capital Project.

Update On The Community Centre Entrance Upgrade

If you've visited Lunenburg's Community Centre recently, you've probably noticed some construction taking place at the main entrance.

These upgrades are part of the Town's ongoing commitment to improving accessibility for all residents and visitors. Thanks to support from a Provincial Recreation Facility Grant, we are making several important improvements to the entrance area.

Once complete, the project will feature a new accessible ramp, updated handrails, and - most importantly - a significantly improved entrance with new doors to make accessing the facility easier and more welcoming for everyone.

Work is progressing well and should be completed soon. We look forward to unveiling the finished project and continuing to make our community spaces more accessible and inclusive for all.

Statement from the Town of Lunenburg

Statement from the Town of Lunenburg

Lunenburg Town Council held a public Special Meeting on Monday, June 22nd, which then went into a Closed Session to receive legal advice related to events alleged to have transpired on Friday, June 12th and Saturday, June 13th, involving Mayor Myra.

Ahead of the Special meeting Members of Council met with Simon Gordon of Saltwinds Transportation.

The Mayor did not attend either of these meetings. Council considered all information available to us as of the date of our Closed Session.

Through careful consideration and legal advice, Council concluded we are not empowered through any legislation to take any action related to this matter. It is our hope the Mayor and Saltwinds Transportation have resolved this between themselves.

We are concerned for all parties and their families who have been deeply affected by the fallout from the social media posts and comments. We are also saddened by the division created in the community, the negative impressions created of our citizens and the national attention given to social media dialogue.

We look forward to returning to the important business of governing the Town of Lunenburg for the benefit of all of our citizens and the Town. We ask our citizens to treat all those immediately involved with fairness and respect.

FILMING NOTICE-TRAFFIC CONTROL & ROAD RESTRICTIONS - June 23

NOTICE OF FILMING -TRAFFIC CONTROL & ROAD RESTRICTIONS - June 23

Residents are advised that a film crew will be working in Old Town Lunenburg on June 22 and 23.

The production company will be employing its own traffic control personnel to help ensure the safety of both the public and crew.

Traffic control measures will be in effect at various locations throughout the filming period. Flaggers and signage will be in place to assist with traffic flow, detours, and access.

We ask all motorists and pedestrians to follow posted signs and the directions of traffic control personnel while filming is underway on Bluenose Drive before Rum Row.

This area will be temporarily restricted to through traffic to ensure crew safety while heavy equipment, including a telehandler, is in operation. Local access for residents will be maintained wherever possible.

WHAT TO EXPECT

■ Production vehicles, trailers, and equipment in the area

■ Heavy equipment on site for rigging and setup

■ Film crew members working in and around the listed addresses

■ Temporary signage, lighting rigs, and cables

■ Increased activity during prep day (June 22) as equipment is positioned

The crew is committed to minimizing disruption to residents and businesses and their production team will make every effort to keep noise levels reasonable, maintain clean work areas, and restore all locations to their original condition once filming is complete.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as wewelcome this production to Lunenburg.
