New Water Meter Installation

In an effort to improve delivery and aid in conservation, a water meter is now required in every home and business serviced by the Town of Lunenburg Water Utility.

The installation process will begin January 2026, and Neptune Technology Group has been contracted by the Town of Lunenburg Water Utility to install the new water meters. All Water Utility Customers will receive a letter from Neptune Technology Group outlining the installation process and instructions on setting up an appointment.

This is a mandatory program, as water meters are necessary to accurately measure water consumption. Water meters help manage consumption.

For Water Utility Rules and Regulations see Water Utility Regulations 2022

The installation procedure requires 30-90 minutes to complete, during which time the water will be shut off for a brief period. An adult of at least 18 years of age must be home for the entire appointment. There is no charge for the meter or the installation. For your convenience, appointments are available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What are the benefits of having a water meter installed?

With the increase in drought-like conditions that Nova Scotia has experienced, the Town of Lunenburg is implementing residential water metering – which is an effective way to reduce overall water consumption. Collecting water meter data will assist in the location of leaks and the monitoring of consumption, which encourages efficient use of drinking water.

This capital project was approved in 2025/26 and is currently entering the installation phase that provides new water meters for all customers. The commercial sector, that has previously been metered, will receive new upgraded meters to replace their existing meters, and all residential customers of the Water Utility will see the implementation of water meters.
