Please note that King Street will be closed between Lincoln St and Cumberland St from 10am-6pm, Saturday July 25.
 
The area will be closed to vehicle traffic to allow for the set-up of the Heritage Marketplace - part of the World Heritage event being held in town between 1pm-5pm this Saturday. For more information about the event - https://www.facebook.com/share/1EgU8PHPmh/

NOTICE OF FIREWORKS – July 23

With no burn restrictions in place this evening, there will be a brief fireworks display at 10pm tonight on the Lunenburg waterfront.

The fireworks display will be put on by the Canadian Dory Racing Association, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the International Dory Races (being held this Saturday).

We are aware of a power outage at Green St. and McKenzie St. and Nova Scotia Power and the Fire Department are onsite.

Motorists are asked to avoid this part of Mckenzie while work is underway.

Statement on behalf of Paul Nopper, CAO of the Town of Lunenburg, regarding Taxi By-law infraction

On the afternoon of July 16, Bylaw Enforcement identified a driver with SaltWind Transportation Service illegally operating without a taxi driver’s license in the Town of Lunenburg. This was confirmed through communication with the driver. Bylaw Enforcement noted the infraction and contacted the owner to educate on the situation and to gain compliance under the bylaw.

The owner became confrontational through the course of the discussion

with Bylaw Enforcement. Upon completion of the conversation, Bylaw Enforcement had de-escalated the situation. Shortly after, the owner came to Town Hall and was extremely confrontational with frontline staff, upon which, the owner voluntarily resigned all of his taxi licenses and left Town Hall.

The resignation of the taxi licenses was in no way prompted or encouraged by Town staff or Council and entirely voluntary on the part of the owner. At this time, SaltWind Transportation Service is no longer licensed under Lunenburg’s Taxi bylaw.

The Town of Lunenburg promotes a safe and respectful workplace for all employees and does not condone the actions that were taken against staff today.

Flags at half-mast in remembrance of the Hon. John Hamm

Flags at Lunenburg Town Hall will be lowered to half-mast in remembrance of and to honour the life of former Premier of Nova Scotia, the Honourable John Hamm.

Dr. Hamm served Nova Scotians as Premier of Nova Scotia from 1999 to 2006 and as the MLA for Pictou Centre from 1993 to 2006. His years of public service and leadership left a lasting impact on communities across the province.

In accordance with provincial protocol, flags will remain at half-mast until sunset on the day of his funeral or memorial service.

On behalf of the Town of Lunenburg Council and staff, we extend our sincere condolences to Dr. Hamm's family and friends, and to all Nova Scotians mourning his passing.
