Holding Statement DARES LAKE DAM
Issued: 3:50pm September 2, 2026
Emergency officials are responding to an incident involving the Dares Lake dam, which supplies drinking water to the Town of Lunenburg. Town engineers are on site assessing conditions and addressing the situation.
To support the response, Lunenburg County REMO, the region's emergency management organization, has partially activated its Emergency Coordination Centre to assist with coordination, planning, and public communications.
At this time, there are no actions required by residents, but should they choose to voluntarily reduce their water consumption, they are welcome to do so. Emergency officials continue to monitor conditions and assess any potential impacts to public safety, municipal infrastructure, and municipal water service.
Residents are asked to avoid the area surrounding Dares Lake and to follow official communication channels for updates.
Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

A new school year is here, and on behalf of the Town of Lunenburg,
we want to wish all students a very happy and successful year ahead!
Whether you’re heading to school for the first time, returning to
familiar classrooms, or starting a new chapter, we hope the year ahead is filled with new friendships, great experiences, and plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.
A new school year also means our streets and roads will be a little busier. We ask everyone to please have a little extra patience as students, families, buses, and commuters settle back into their routines.
Most importantly, please slow down and exercise extra caution when travelling through school zones. Watch for children crossing the street, school buses stopping, and families getting to and from school.
Let’s all do our part to make sure everyone gets to school - and home again -safely. Have a great school year, Lunenburg! 🍎✏️📓
