Voting Procedures

This year’s election will be entirely paperless, with voting available only by phone or online. The advance voting period begins on October 10 at 8 a.m. and ends on October 19 at 7 p.m. You can vote at any time during this period.

Voters listed on the List of Electors will receive their voting instructions and unique PIN by mail in late September or early October. If you are eligible to vote but haven’t received your instructions by October 10, please contact the Returning Officer at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 902-521-0016.

If you added your name to the List of Electors or changed your mailing address after September 6, you will not receive voting instructions by mail. In this case, please contact the Returning Officer or visit the Voter Help Desk at Town Hall to get your instructions.

If you will be out of town and do not have your voting instructions, you can contact the Returning Officer via phone or email to receive your unique PIN and voting details.

Not on the List of Electors but Eligible to Vote?

If you are eligible to vote but are not on the List of Electors, you can still vote. Just contact the Returning Officer or visit the Voter Help Desk during the voting period to receive your voting instructions.

How to Vote

Your voting instructions will provide two options for casting your vote:

  • A website for online voting, or
  • A toll-free number (1-800) for voting by phone.

You can choose either option—whichever is more convenient for you. These details are provided only to eligible voters, so please do not share them. Along with your instructions, you will receive a unique 12-digit PIN and will need to enter your date of birth for verification.

Once you have entered your PIN and birthdate, you will be able to vote for one mayoral candidate and up to six councillors. You can choose to vote for fewer councillors if you prefer.

Troubleshooting Common Voting Issues

  • Double-check that you’ve entered your PIN correctly.
  • Ensure your birthdate is entered in the correct format: MM/DD/YYYY. For online voting, include any required dashes or slashes.

If you’re still having trouble, contact the Voter Helpline or visit the Voter Help Desk.
