On Monady, Lunenburg will play host to some very special visitors - the Royal Norwegian Naval Band!

The 27 professional musicians that make up the Royal Norwegian Navy Band participate in up to 150 events a year, entertaining audiences with their world-class repertoire, mastering genres including traditional band, classical, contemporary, jazz, rock and pop.

Formed in 1820, the Royal Norwegian Navy Band has performed all over the world. Their appearance at the 2025 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo represents their first time performing in Halifax and for a very special reason.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and the special cultural and military relationship cultivated between Canada and Norway all those years ago remains especially meaningful now.

While in Nova Scotia, the Royal Norwegian Navy Band is spending a day in Lunenburg to honour the friendships developed at Camp Norway, to commemorate their departed comrades who are laid to rest here, and to celebrate with the people of Lunenburg.

The people of Lunenburg and the surrounding region are cordially invited to attend the events of the day which will include –

  • a brief commemoration at the former site of Camp Norway at 10:00 am
  • a brief outdoor performance at The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic Wharf at 10:30 am
  • a march from the FMA Wharf to the Town of Lunenburg Cenotaph at 10:45 am for a brief commemoration at the Norwegian monument at 11:00 am
  • a visit to Hillcrest Cemetery to honour the graves of the Norwegians laid to rest there at 1:00 pm,
  • and a FREE concert open to everyone at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm.

So be sure to save the date on Monday, June 30, 2025, and join the celebration of our special friendship with Norway.
