Public Notice: Bill Payments during Canada Post Strike

Due to the postal strike, sending in payments by mail for water/sewer/tax accounts and other services will see your payment delayed. Here are a few other easy payment options:
- If you would like a copy of your billing, this can be provided at the Town Hall Finance Department.
- Payment can be made at Town of Lunenburg Town Hall, 119 Cumberland Street, Town of Lunenburg. Monday to Friday (8:30 am to 4:30 pm). We accept cash, cheques and debit.
- There is a payment slot by the main door of the Town Hall at the 119 Cumberland Street Entrance.
- You can pay at the local branch of your bank.
- Online Banking: Through most financial institutions (contact your financial institution for instructions on online banking services)
- You can sign up for Town of Lunenburg e services to receive your billings on line.
- There is also an option for preauthorized debit payments.

FALL LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM 2024

The Town of Lunenburg is pleased to offer the following leaf collection opportunities to assist residents with their fall leaf clean-up:
• Leaves and brush can be delivered to the Town’s Starr Street compost site on Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you use bags, they must be paper.
• Leaves can be placed in your compostainer or paper bags for pick-up on scheduled “green week” collection days.
• An additional Special Leaf Collection is scheduled for Friday, November 15. Leaves must be placed in your compostainer or paper bags.
• The Public Works Department will also do a one-time leaf collection on every Town street – making one pass only as follows:
New Town
o Crews will begin pickup in your area on Monday, November 18 (weather permitting). This will take approximately two weeks to complete.
o They will make a single pass down your street, so please ensure leaves are out by November 18.
Old Town
o Crews will begin pickup in your area on Monday, December 2 (weather permitting). This will take approximately two weeks to complete.
o They will make a single pass down your street, so please ensure leaves are out by December 2.
Please do not rake leaves into gutters, ditches, or the street – these can clog storm drains and cause flooding and slippery road conditions.
Residents are also reminded that leaves can be mulched with a lawnmower mulching blade at the end of the mowing season. This saves you time and helps the environment by returning nutrients contained in the leaves directly into your lawn!

NEW SHORT-TERM RENTAL PROVINCIAL REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

The new Provincial Regulations for short-term rental and tourist accommodations requires proof of compliance documentation from your Municipality, in this case the Town of Lunenburg, to accompany your application. Please note the following documentation, provided together, meets the Town of Lunenburg’s requirements to show proof of compliance:
- A Development Permit to authorize the short-term rental use on your property. If you have previously applied for and obtained a Development Permit for short-term rental or tourist accommodation, you will not need to re-apply, but will still need to provide a copy when you register with the Province; and
- A Zoning Confirmation Letter to confirm that short-term rentals are permitted in your zone.
Please complete a pdf Heritage Development Encroachment Application Form (330 KB) . Return the completed form, along with a floorplan sketch of the general layout of the building for all floors, clearly showing which unit will be the short-term rental, to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or in person to Town Hall. Development Permits are free. Include with it a written request for the Zoning Confirmation Letter. The fee for a Zoning Confirmation Letter is $60.90, which can be paid via one of the Town’s pdf acceptable payment methods (125 KB) .
As we anticipate receiving a large volume of applications, please ensure that you have allowed adequate time to obtain your documents before the provincial registration deadline.

Blockhouse Hill Design Project Update

The Town of Lunenburg is updating the community on the Blockhouse Hill Design Project, which seeks to balance heritage conservation with new residential growth, emphasizing community engagement. After public engagement sessions and Council deliberations, further exploration is underway based on Design Option 2.
