Council meets next on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 6 p.m. Please note this meeting is not being held on our regular Tuesday to observe Remembrance Day.

EASTLINK OUTAGE

Due to the current Eastlink outage, Town Hall is unable to receive inbound phone calls.

Town Hall is operating as normal and the service desks are open for walk-in customers.

We will update once service has been restored.

COMPOST SITE TIME CHANGE - NOVEMBER 7

Please not that for this week only, (Friday November 7th), the Starr Street compost site will be open from 8:30am-11:30am, instead of the regular 1pm-4pm due to a staff training event.

November 7 Town Hall & Community Centre Partial Closure

Lunenburg Town Hall and the Community Centre will close at noon on Friday, November 7 for a staff training workshop.

Town Hall will reopen on Monday at 8:30am and the Community Centre on Saturday at 9:00am.

The arena will remain open during this time on Friday.

Statement on the passing of Brian Demone and Ted Kelly

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of a former Town employees, Brian Demone and Ted Kelly.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues. Their contributions to the Town and community are remembered with gratitude and respect.

The flag at Town Hall has been lowered to half-mast in observance of their passing.

Brian Demone passed away on October 7, at the age of 79.

Born in Bridgewater, Brian Brian’s career began at National Sea in Lunenburg, followed by several years at Michelin in Bridgewater and eventually he came to work with the Town of Lunenburg, a position that kept him close to home.

He was an active member of his community, serving in the St. John’s Anglican Church Men’s Club and the Lunenburg Jaycees, and was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23, Lunenburg.

He leaves behind his loving wife, of 57 years, Karen; his devoted children, Stephen Demone of Lunenburg and Stacey (Keith) Rumsby of Victoria, BC; and his adored grandchildren, J’Naya and Tobias; a sister, Gretchen and brother, Robert; as well as many other extended family members. Brian was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Annette.

The family welcomes donations to the Lunenburg Fire Department or a charity of your choice, in Brian’s memory.

Capt. Edward James Kelly (CD, RCN ret’d) died at his home, surrounded by his family, in Lunenburg, on Oct. 15th.

Born in Toronto, Ontario on Feb 7, 1940, Ted spent 27 years in the Royal Canadian Navy achieving the rank of Captain. After leaving the Navy, he served as Director of Operations for the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver, followed by Director of the Canadian Coast Guard College in Cape Breton, Town Manager of Lunenburg, Deputy Registrar General of Ontario, and consultant to the Prime Minister of Malta.

Ted is survived by his wife, Sue (Clark), sons Patrick (Jill Moore, Duncan, & Nathan), Evan (Catherine Woodcock, Noam, & Willem), and daughter Erin (Steve MacDonald, Chloe, Eliza, & Molly) as well as his brother-in-law, Rodney Clark. He has nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond and cousins in the UK and Luxembourg.

A service will be held at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church (121 York St, Lunenburg) at 11h00 on Saturday, Oct. 25th, with a reception to follow at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home (11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg). In lieu of flowers, Ted asked that you donate to a charity of your choice. Online condolences please visit www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
