No. The by-law is not intended to eliminate normal everyday sounds. It focuses on excessive, disruptive, or unreasonable noise that interferes with the enjoyment of neighbouring properties.
Complaints are reviewed using a "reasonable person" standard. This means noise is assessed based on what an average person would consider excessive or disruptive in a similar setting.
Yes. Normal business operations are permitted, provided the noise does not become excessively loud or disruptive as defined by the by-law.
The by-law allows for approved community events, festivals, and celebrations. Event organizers may apply for noise exemptions when necessary.
The Town works alongside provincial regulators like the Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division of Service Nova Scotia (AGFT), when concerns involve licensed establishments. Complaints may be reviewed under municipal regulations as well the province may decide to have the AGFT review and determine if the noise infracts on their Liquor License, if determined that it does, AGFT may then put conditions on their Liquor License.
Construction activities are generally permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., provided equipment is properly maintained and operated responsibly.
Yes. Mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, air conditioners, and ventilation systems must not create excessive noise that unreasonably disturbs neighbouring properties.
