The Town of Lunenburg held its 7th Annual Pride Flag Raising event today, August 16th. This is the first year of South Shore Pride Week. This annual event honours the ongoing fight for 2SLGBTQ+ human rights, freedom and equality around the world.
In attendance were Mayor Matt Risser, Deputy Mayor Peter Mosher, and Councillors Jenni Birtles, Stephen Ernst, and Ed Halverson along with Ashlee Feener, representing The Honourable Susan Corkum-Greek, Minister of Economic Development and MLA for Lunenburg.
Thank you to Lunenburg Co. Pride, our partners in this event, for providing a heartfelt message delivered by Town staff member Heather McCallum. Thank you to Heather's son Aidan Cygan for raising the flag. Thank you to everyone who took time today to join us in support of Lunenburg's 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Lunenburg Co. Pride Remarks
Today, we raise the Pride flag here in Lunenburg, with the ongoing support and love from the town of Lunenburg.
When you see the flag flying proudly in the wind, imagine yourselves facing the challenges that being a member of the LGBTQ+ community involves. Imagine being a flag, flapping in the wind, but with the strength of all who have come before you. Think of what the flag represents and remember that no matter what challenges you face, you have the strength to face them. You’re resilient, you’re loved, and you will always be surrounded by everything that Pride represents. In the words of Lady Gaga, be kind and be compassionate… because you were born this way, baby!
Thank you. ~Steve Ellis, Chair, Lunenburg Co. Pride
