Good news for one of the banes of our existence! We are actively working to enhance safety at the Lilydale 4-way stop. Council directed staff to contact the Department of Transportation to explore improvements to ensure everyone's well-being on our roads.

On Monday, March 25, we had the pleasure of an informal visit from Canadian Heritage Minister, the Honourable Pascale St. Onge. The Minister was in Halifax to attend the Junos and had some extra time and wanted to see our charming heritage town. The Deputy Mayor, senior staff and I had a wonderful chat with the Minister. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our rich cultural heritage, discuss important issues we are facing, and strengthen our ties with the broader Canadian community.

A huge round of applause to Donelda Richard for her outstanding service! Named Lunenburg Volunteer of the Year, Donelda's tireless efforts with Lunenburg Doc Fest and the Royal Canadian Legion and Fisherman’s Memorial epitomize the spirit of volunteerism that makes our town shine. Donelda will represent Lunenburg at the upcoming 2024 Provincial Volunteer Awards.

A warm welcome to our newest employee - Shania MacLeod.  Shania joins the Town as By-law Enforcement Officer. Shania has Special Constable status  which means she can issue parking tickets, have vehicles towed and enforce all our by-laws.  She will also help educate the public on our by-laws. Make sure you keep some change in the car for the meters! If you would like to brush up on the by-laws, please click here.

On a bittersweet note, we bid farewell to a valued town leader and friend, CAO Jamie Doyle, who is leaving his position with the town to explore a new opportunity. We thank Jamie for his dedicated service, good humour, and commitment to Lunenburg’s success as a town. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

Stay tuned for next month. We’ll be presenting the budget at the April 23 Council meeting. Check our website and social media for updates and how you can provide input. Have a great holiday weekend everyone. Have fun at the Burg Classic – and behave yourselves!

Jamie Myra, Mayor

Town of Lunenburg
